RTC A5147 Mairscough Lane Lydiate

There was a RTC on the A5147 Mairscough Lane between Lydiate and Downholland Cross, just north of the turning for Church Lane at about 3:00pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 12th July 2005). A car transporter collided with a HGV.

There were no reported serious injuries going to press.

that section of the road is far to thin it needs widening i was wondering when something like that might happen/

Its a narrow road: Driver beware!

I used to live on that road, very very busy!! My old house is the one in the middle!! HEY where did those comments go???????????????? Great pics by the way!

Fatal Road Traffic Collision in Lydiate

Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses to a fatal RTC which happened on Wednesday evening (8th September) at around 5.50pm on Southport Road in Lydiate.

At about 5.30pm a Honda 900cc Fireblade motorcycle was travelling along Mairscough Lane from Lydiate towards the bridge over Lydiate brook when it was in collision with a single decker bus.

A woman who was the pillion passenger on the motorbike was air lifted to hospital where she later died at around 6.50pm. It is believed that the passenger was a 30 year old lady from the Maghull area.

The male driver of the motorcycle was left extremely shaken by the collision but was otherwise unhurt. The bus driver and all of the passengers on the bus were also unhurt.

Southport Road has been closed at the junction of Moss Lane while accident investigators are at the scene.

Police would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 0151 777 5730.


GabriEl it had already happend last year,that part of the road is far to narrow for 2 large vehicle`s,every time i go down that road i feel very sick as it was my friend that was on his bike,iam just glad that no one was hurt this time.

I think the point is that the road is too narrow for such large vehicles. Maybe thought should be given to banning them from going down there. I was only delayed about 15 minutes and there were no apparent injuries. Mind you, the driver must have seen his life flashing before his eyes as he teetered over the edge!!

It does look a horrible road. is it national speed limit round there (i dont know this area) speed and a narrow road doesnt help, i was in a car last week near burscough when a tractor came flying down the road leaving no room 4 us!
