Great picture. Now excuse my ignorance but was there also a mill on Heathfield rd or am I thinking of the sameone?
Has anyone got a sample of map from that area they could post so I can get my bearings?

Only ever been one mill, and that was on Mill Road which lies
on the same road as Heathfield. The only time you would have seen two windmills blob,is if you had a few scoops too many

The Moulin Rouge and later as we know Tiffany's. Does anyone remember the manager (of both) Dave Harrison. Played the part suave, sophisticated... wore shades. Old pal of mine. I bet he could tell us some tales...

3 questions regarding those excellent maps;-
Where are these maps coming from?
How old are they?
And why don't I have a copy?

Mick I also worked at the "Eggy" about 28 years ago.
Mr.Brown was my Boss at the time and a lot of workers came
from Litherland,Crosby and Waterloo area. The factory had a
bus I think that picked them up and took them home at
night.
I worked with Julie Gannon on one of the machines and Elly a
girl from Woodvale Road.Julie was at the "Eggy" donkey's
years till it closed.I liked working with Julie and Elly,we got on
great as a team.
Mick do you remember the mice jumping from the trollys of
eggs? You had to shake the trollys first,so the mice would
jump, some people would scream and drop eggs if they
did'nt do this. You also often found a nest of baby mice in
the egg cartoons that were brought in with the eggs.
There was also the odd rat sometimes in the factory, lost
count of how many screams I heard while I worked there

Nell, yep, one and the same Norman (my uncle) He moved up to Marshside in 1976. Auntie Jean died in the mid-eighties (I think - sorry Janice if I'm wrong) and Norman passed away in 1998. Arthur & Mary lived on Heathfield Road 2 doors from George Drive (now both deceased) and Allan Johnson (dad of Tony & Wendy) lived further up Heathfield Road going toward Guildford, his wife Joyce has just recently died. I haven't seen Margaret (wife of David Johnson - also now deceased) for years either. There's only Allan Johnson left of the 8 Johnson boys. Clifford, Ted and Billy also passed away. The eldest boy, Bobby died in about 1930. My mum and Auntie Lil both died in 1989.
What a dynasty!

Moulin Rouge Ainsdale
Does anyone remember the area before Heathfield Road existed?
In the late 40's it used to be a great adventure for us "kids" to trek through the sand hills at the end of Segars Lane to the junction of Carr Lane and the end of Guildford Road, then back again. Didn't see too many wild animals on our jaunts though!!

Moulin Rouge/Tiffany's
I haven't been around for a while, but I swear I remember posting something about The Moulin Rouge/Tiffany's on a thread somewhere hereabouts ...... Do they get tidied away after a while or what ?? Anyhow, I remember going to student union do's at the Moulin Rouge (I think it became Tiffany's during the short time I lived in Southport) at the invitation of a guy called Robert Walker who worked as a saturday lad for my hubby - Robert was also involved with 'Radio Doom' which I seem to recall also had a mention on this board once upon a time ......

Your reminiscences re the Mill brought back memories to me. Coming home from school I used to take the short cut through the Mill works at the end of Sandbrook Road where the Gas release pipe was (and still is, I think). That short cut became the entrance to the Egg factory. I also used to try to kickstart the gas lamp into life at the junction of Sandbrook and Segars Lane and I quite often succeeded.
I was caught one day by one of the workers and was dangled over a water barrel by my legs - I never took the short cut again.
On other days I used to stop by the wooden posts and poke the earwigs out of the wire fencing holes.
Do you also remember the milk lady who used to live in Mill Road, she delivered everything in a wooden hand cart....they had a big (and I mean, big) Alsatian dog.
Re Julie Gannon - she used to be in my class at school. Often wondered what happened to her.

I remember Dave Harrison vaguely. We both went to St Johns Primary School in Sandbrook Rd. I lost track of him then until he turned up as a Probationary Police Constable in Southport. My Father who was a Police Sergeant at the time was one of his "puppy walkers" as I think they call them these days. Apparently he wasn't cut out to be a copper and didn't last long in the Police Force.

On the map I see that # 4 was one of the few houses on Burnley road , I got the census sheet from the 1901 census and it does not show too many houses on Burnley rd even then. When was the major expansion of building in Ainsdale , after WW1 ?.
