Armed Robbery at Lord St Jewellers
Wed 26th Nov 2003, 11:30 PM
Reported by: onthespot

Rebecca’s Jewellers, Lord St was the scene of a robbery this evening.

A member of staff was attacked with an iron bar when two men entered the shop, wearing balaclavas and carrying a firearm. A substantial quantity of jewellery was taken before the robbers left, heading in the direction of Cable Street via an alleyway off Lord Street then towards West Street. It is thought they made their getaway in a silver vehicle.

Anyone with any information should contact Merseyside Police on 0151-777-3464 or Crimestoppers on 0800555811

The above shop is owned by relatives of mine, with many of the other staff good friends.

The incident happened at approx 4.45 this afternoon and the car involved is thought to be a silver Golf Gti.

The shop manager who was attacked with an iron bar is now recovering at home with severe shock and bruising after being treated by a doctor at the scene.

All other staff involved are very shaken by the ordeal,in what must be a terrifying experience for them all to have gone through.

I for one hope that all can come to terms with this and wish them well,I hope the people responsible for this are caught and sent away for good, because we do not need lowlife like this on our streets:mad:

All Rounder,
I'm shocked to hear about this; Rob & Jeanette are friends of mine. I've met Rebecca a few times as well when she's been round to their house.

I can only echo what you've already said. I hope they catch up with them and put them behind bars pdq. Hopefully there should be cctv footage, or somebody might have information which will lead to their arrest.

so sorry just so glad it wasnt a fatal robbbery..............the people involved will probably in shock for a while and on 'edge' for a while wary of any customers whom enter the shop.

lets hope they get caught.......

I would be crap as an eye witness me!

I walked past Rebeccas last night with my Mum and dog, it was about seven'ish and I stopped to look in their window.

I noticed that there were lots of people inside and that the lights were on, but it never crossed my mind that it was odd as I 'window-shopped' a diamond encrusted crusafix and a very nice bracelet.

I hope they catch the braggard's soon and I hope everyone is ok.

MG Midget (he's 20) got a good look at the robbers as they left the shop. He'll be talking to the Police today.

I wonder if this sort of street crime would still occur if we had regular foot patrols of real Police Officers rather than than the toy soldiers (civilian community patrols) we now see.
I understand the regular Police are all utilised in squads concentrating on the more PC side of life instead of the nitty gritty the rest of us all have to deal with on a day to day basis.

Any informed comment would be interesting.:angel

It would make no difference , this sort of robber would just smack any police that got in the way as well.
