Images of War - Iraq
Thu 18th Dec 2003, 02:54 PM
Reported by: Mr B
Many people keep asking why our own troops are out in Iraq. Well maybe some of these pictures will help those people to understand that sometimes it isn't just about War, it's about freedom and justice as well.

This first picture is of a 2 day old baby that was found by the Queens Lancashire Regiment during a weapons search.

The Mother of Baby Rose thought she was dead so she placed her in this tin. The QLR lads couldn't believe their eyes when they found her.

At the time they found the baby they also found all these weapons and bundles of money!

Amongst other duties the squaddies had to man Vehicle check points.

When the Queens lancashire Regiment arrived in Basra they found the local Fire Station in a bad state of repair.

The Fire station after the QLR's had refurbished it:

Some more weapons found in raids in and around the Basra area.

The QLR's visited schools to ensure the kids were all OK.

Mr B Please Thank Adam for sharing these photo's with us. That baby story is amazing, what happened to the baby (& mum)? The firestation looked great after its QLR treatment! Well Done to the guys & gals of QLR.

You should be proud Mr B:D

Rick says: Thu 18th Dec 2003, 08:35 PM
Thank you Mr B and Adam.

Mr B, could you please compress the photos before uploading to give our non-broadband users the opportunity to view them?

A 640 x 480 image should end up being about 35-50KB in size.
(I've done these for you)

On a light-hearted note I should think Adam is quite happy with those sleeping conditions compared to some he'll have had to put up with!! :)

pimmelkopf says: Thu 18th Dec 2003, 11:32 PM
Well done ALL the squaddies in Basra. ESPECIALLY the Micks.

Mr B says: Fri 19th Dec 2003, 09:31 AM
Thanks for the great comments boys and girls :)

Sorry about the sizes of the pics Rick, I will compress them next time.

Marilyn, Mother and baby are doing fine now. The mother just assumed the baby was still born so she put her in the tin box! The 2 lads who found her gently warmed her up and gave her back to mum. Just proves that todays soldier is just a big softee LOL.

I will post some more pics today if I get time.

What a wonderful story. You're right Mr B, seeing the picture of the little baby who would otherwise have been left for dead, really does have an impact. We don't realise that it's not all just about fighting and suppressing the 'enemy'. The guys should be very proud of themselves for their humanitarian behaviour. One thing's for sure, the baby's Mum will never forget them!

Pictured below is Anzio Company, 1st Battalion Queens Lancashire Regiment.

These lucky lads are off to Cyprus next March for 2 yrs............guess where Mr B will be spending the next few holidays LOL :D

This picture was taken a couple of minutes after coming under attack from Iraqi's firing Rocket propelled grenades. The picture shows just how well protected the vehicles are. You can see the damage on the side.

Mr B says: Fri 19th Dec 2003, 11:32 PM
Only George Bush and Tony Blair can answer that one Red star

RedStarLine says: Fri 19th Dec 2003, 11:36 PM
didnt anyone tell you? didnt you think to ask?

has any agency announced the civilian death toll?

Mr B says: Sat 20th Dec 2003, 01:36 PM
Hey Red Star, I'm not in the Army, my son is. He just follows orders, it's his chosen career. If you want facts and figures i suggest you write to your MP!

blackdog-mick says: Sat 20th Dec 2003, 05:33 PM
I reckon he fancies being his MP mr B! :D

Mr B says: Sat 20th Dec 2003, 10:47 PM
Your right there Mick, perhaps he can be the MP for Hillside LOL :D

RedStarLine says: Wed 24th Dec 2003, 02:19 PM
I see "just following orders", I hope the British army aren't mindless automatons!
I am happy with our current MP, he voted againstt he war which is what I would have done.

blackdog-mick says: Wed 24th Dec 2003, 07:45 PM
That's fine Red, we're all entitled to our opinion, and I don't say I disagree with yours in this instance. I just get peeved that people want to moan about these things at any given opportunity, although I can't actually see you were given an opportunity in this case.

I rather think this thread was started as a welcome home for someone who has been away serving his country (and therefore you & I) for a while.

Whether you like it or not Red, our troops were sent out there by our elected representatives and should therefore be given the respect due them, and NOT castigated for doing their job.

God bless!:) :angel

RedStarLine says: Thu 25th Dec 2003, 01:50 PM
Attacking Iraq was not serving this country, It was not defending this country. I thik it is a basic question to ask someone who has fought in a war and occupied a foreign country, "why?". I would expect the troops to at least know why they had done it.
I think it is still legal to ask questions about the governments actions. How many elected representatives would have voted for this attack if they knew there were no WMD and no threat to the UK?

Mr B says: Sat 27th Dec 2003, 12:42 PM
Red Star, have a look at the start of this thread. It is about what our troops have done, and are continuing to do, for the Iraqi people. My son did not attack iraq. He went out to help a nation that has suffered for many years at the hands of a dictatorial despot!

If you want to start your own thread about the merits of war then go ahead and do so. Until then, look at the pictures and stories and be grateful that we have here in Britain the best and most caring troops in the world.
