John Nolan Turns Away BBC Bargain Hunt!

Local antiques expert John Nolan has turned down an invitation from the BBC Bargain Hunt to use his King Street shop as a back drop to their show.

Pictured below is antiques expert John Nolan.

John has outlined his reasons for this choice in a letter below.

You may well find that John's solicitor composed that! :D

One of the other aspects of this that's quite interesting is that the BBC have complete and total rights over what they do with any film footage they record. As John pointed out to me, that includes the use on programmes such as "Crimewatch" and as he says, you wouldn't want your shop to be identifiable as somewhere that harbours items that "are just like this one that was stolen from..."!

Anyway, who needs the BBC when he's got SGB? :D

I've seen Bargain Hunt a few times. It certainly does not give the impression that items are prepurchased. If they are then I am (slightly) appalled and can well understand why John would not want to take part.

Reading the original announcement it looks a bit like a celebrity 'special', so maybe the rules are different for those.

I have heard from the mouth of another Antique dealer in Southport who also turned down the BBC nearly 14 days before they approached John, maybe this post should go in the Antique section of the site ;)

To be quite honest I don't blame him, when they arrived in Southport they went to Royal Arcade on Lord St. When the programme aired I made a point of watching it because it was in Southport. The illustrious Mr Dickinson proclaimed that they had "arrived in an antiques valuers in LIVERPOOL?"

The programme makers have obviously got a thing about going totally regional.

I don't know what the people working at Royal Arcade must have thought when the Dickinson told viewers that they were in Liverpool.....I'd have been straight on the phone, any more views. anyone?

So you have been fogging us off, you can write more than one sentance and have a witty sence of humor, like mine there. :P

Every time you are involved in something big Vanny, you always mention your 30 year streak in the business, like mentioning I also had toast for breakfast... :D
