SDAA ban Gord Burton & Paul Cobb for life
Wed 18th Apr 2007, 12:59 PM
Reported by: onthespot
Southport and District Angling Association (SDAA) ban Gord Burton & Paul Cobb for life

World famous ‘Pike’ fisherman, Gordon Burton and Southport angler, Paul Cobb have received lifetime bans from fishing SDAA waters. Members voted in favour of the bans at last nights SDAA AGM (Tuesday 17th April 2007) held at the Fleetwood Hesketh Sports Club in Churchtown, Southport.

Gord Burton

Gord Burton said:” There is no proof that the fish in question were caught in SDAA waters”

49 members attended the AGM

Ron Anderson, of ‘Tight Lines’ fishing tackle shop (Forest Road, Southport) had his SDAA day ticket concession licence withdrawn by the committee. It’s understood that Mr Hurst (SDAA) said his licence was withdrawn for signing a recent SDAA motion.

SDAA inform Ron by letter

When interviewed this morning (Wednesday 18th April 2007) Ron Anderson was clearly upset by the SDAA decision to revoke his licence and declined to comment on the matter.

Ron Anderson

SGB understands that Ron was asked by the SDAA Committee not to publish any photographs of Gordon Burton (with fish from SDAA waters) in a local newspaper, which he adhered to.

Ron recently sponsored the SDAA Centenary Match to the tune of £50, and last year donated over £3,000 in fishing trophies & prizes in the area.

A spokesperson for the SDAA said” Last nights AGM was well represented by 49 members and the club is looking to go forward in the future”, “Ron can still apply to become a member of the SDAA”

SDAA fishing ticket concessions can now be obtained from a Churchtown newsagents shop (to be confirmed)

So Ron is to be punished by withdrawing from him the means of generating a small part of his income.

And this is because he dared to sign a motion ? ie, he dared to engage in a democratic process ?

This speaks volumes to me about the SDAA.

Stick by your guns Ron, it is they who are at fault.

They should conduct their war with this so called poacher, without bullying and penalising you. Their behaviour is disgraceful.

It all sounds rather fishy to me.
Without proof they have no case did they provide any proof?
I doubt it, big wig bully boys.

My dads mates cousins uncles nephew caught a cat fish in the marine lake the other day? whats that all about?

Free Speech Hey Not As Far As Sdaa Are Concerned

Whilst I know exactly what a Pike is, having nearly caught one in my childhood, I have no idea at all what a 'Pike' is. Perhaps therein lies the mystery.

Rottweiler says: Wed 18th Apr 2007, 04:40 PM
I have still not received any reason for my banning from the SDAA. I sent letters to 6 committee members asking what rules I had broken and none of them had the decency to respond. I feel that I have been banned because I asked certain questions which other members were to scared to ask for fear of repercussions. I asked these questions because I was fed up with all the rumours going around. I say rumours because at the time I thought they were rumours and it turned out to be truthful.
With regards to the illegal stocking of the barbel in the local waters what ever happened to that case? Who were the alleged culprits in this matter? Is the SDAA trying to sweep it under the carpet and keep the focus of the problem by trying to get people to focus on other matters? Why did the secetary of the SDAA suddenly resign?
Oh and by the way I was not the person who started the process of the investigation by the Enviroment Agency into this matter. I asked the questions after I heard the rumours.
It seems that there are more questions then answers.
One advantage of being banned from the local waters I have found other places to fish of which I had never heard of. It is surprising how many more waters are out there. Took something like this to make me aware of the places availible.
Tight lines all.
Paul Cobb

ps. I am prepared to answer any questions put forward to me as I have nothing to hide. Just keep it civil

Onthespot I have heard from my sources that no vote was carried out last night with regards to banning etc. A couple of names were mentioned briefly including mine but no vote. I wonder if your contact was perhaps a disgruntled committee member who is not happy with my question asking? In that case his statement means nothing.
Since I was banned by a kangeroo court and I was not allowed to defend myself I dare any SDAA committee member to challenge me openly on this forum with what I have supposedly done wrong. I also challenge them to ask me any question with regards to what I have supposedly to have done.

Rottweiler

A spokesperson for the SDAA confirmed with me this morning that the two named persons have received lifetime bans.

Rottweiler says: Wed 18th Apr 2007, 07:06 PM
Considering you saying it is a spokesperson are you able to mention there name? I am keen to know who it is as they don't have the decency/courage to say things to my face or allow me to respond to there allegations. I find it very strange that they can tell you that I have received a life time ban but they haven't told me it is life time. But again it was a kangeroo court. I challenge that spokesperson to name himself and to meet me face to face or discuss the issues on this forum. Onthespot you can be the mediator.

vanny says: Wed 18th Apr 2007, 08:01 PM
I find this scenario very strange. Here we have someone who is prepared to go public on what he is accussed off and the accuser seems to be hiding. What is the accuser scared off? Is he scared of hearing the truth? Is the SDAA not supposed to be a members club where members should be able to ask questions? It seems as if the SDAA is run by the committee and do not listen to the members. Is Rottweiler taking a chance? Wonder what would happen if the SDAA took up his challenge would he run or stand his ground. I will be monitoring this forum very closely, as the outcome should be very interesting

Rottweiler says: Wed 18th Apr 2007, 08:59 PM
Vanny I will not back down. I have been banned for no reason what so ever. Those that have accussed me of doing things I dare them to come forward and tell me what I have supposedly done. If by any chance what so ever they have got something against me I will own up, but I will not sit back and be falsely accused of something, and I'm sure you will not sit back and be falsely accused. So bring them on I'm waiting for them. Lets hear what they have to say.

sheik-yerbouti says: Wed 18th Apr 2007, 09:26 PM
I have to agree with Eagle Eye, it would be difficult to meet a fairer nicer guy than Ron. I'm sure Paul is OK too.

What we have here is some jumped up, never come down idiot who should have been a power manic in soviet/german histories of the thirties, and not unfortunately in our time.

People are to be condemned and punished simply for having an opinion/joining debate/signing a petion, which the oiks in charge do not approve of. It stinks.

I will never have anything to do with the SDAA while this persecution of indivuals, and free thought continues

I`ve passed it on to Martin James.

Ronny?? You couldn`t wish to meet a nicer guy, he helped my son when he went to Sefton Fisheries? to learn to fish -helpful guy, can`t believe he`d be involved in anything - no, I`m going to use the word "shady"

suggest you all e-mail Martin James, lets get this on Radio Lancashire and give it a proper airing.

Poor ol' Gordy - it seems this has been going on for years, and it's personal.
Time for a shake-up at the SDAA I feel. Members do count, after all, the fee's are what keeps the commitee in their respective places. It's not run for the benefit of them but the Members, who have rights, like any other club.
A new secretary? Mr Bannister resigned as I hear it? Is this a good thing? Who is actually responsible for the alleged illegal stocking? Who OK'd it at comittee level? or were they stocked by Gordy? I know he's partial to using decent baits for his piking!
It needs answers, not to just the guys who've been banned, a simple letter stating the facts as the committee see it would tip oil on troubled waters. And dig them out of this situation. The way it sounds, it's like Putin is in charge over there - I expect some evil looking leather clad starzi-bailiffs in place for the coming season on the Sluice! Maybe that's whats needed in todays climate - having immegrant workers removing our fish stocks has also become a problem, has the club committee looked into this? Or, left it to the E.A. questions questions shame I missed the AGM I think I would have caused it to run on into the wee hours!
Gordy will still be catching big girls and Paul sounds like he's onto some good fishing at other waters - the club will miss members of Gordy's type and experience, anyone who's had the pleasure of mulling over the fishing with him will testify
Chin up fella's - the answers will come out inna wash!

Ronnie is a lovely chap.

You could always jib the fishing nonsense and go back to gardening!

The fence you put up for me (many moons ago) needs redoing and the front garden needs sorting out too!

Seriously, though, hope you get this problem sorted out. Seems you have all been unfairly treated.

It also seems that you have the support of plenty of anglers in the area ...... good luck lads xxxx

The barbel topic has been going for some time now and the National Fisheries and the Enviroment Crime team are nearing the end of there investigations as they had to call more people in. Due to the blatant lies and cover up of the doings of certain people the more they anger me the more I wil make enquiries. I agree come out in the open we all make mistakes admit to your mistakes and lets move forward. I wonder if the spokesperson of the SDAA was involved with the illegal stocking of fish and thats whyhe is trying to push the focus on myself and Gordon.
Below is the link for the other story on this matter.

http://www.southportforums.com/foru...&highlight=sdaa

One must not forget what this is all about. It is about better fishing for everyone. It is about making fishing availible to all. How many other things have been done without the members knowledge?
They have even forgotten the good things. remember last year with the clean up of Crowland Street. I was the only one involved and I had no assistance from anyone on the SDAA. I didn't even get a thank you. http://www.southportforums.com/foru...&highlight=sdaa

Green Drake says: Thu 19th Apr 2007, 08:34 AM
I was at the AGM, and I can confirm that whilst the committee may wish to ban Gord Burton and Paul Cobb for life, no vote was taken. This is factually incorrect. This ban is not in place with the support of the membership.

One member asked the committee to give an assurance that no member would ever be expelled in future without being given the reason why they were being banned, and being given the opportunityto stand before the committee and put their own side of the story (i.e., defend themselves, like we all have the right to do in court)

At this suggestion, malcolm bannister became apopleptic with rage, and had to be calmed down by fellow committe members. he stated clearly that he would never give such an assurance. For me this speaks volumes about how the SDAA has been run. As a dictatorship who do not feel they are accountable at all to the membership.

Lets all now support the new secretary and new committee members in bringing this club into the 21st century, and getting it operating as a peoples club, and not the plaything of a small number of committee members.

Incidentally, it was stated clearly at the meeting that Paul Cobb was banned for:

1) Poaching
2)Fishing with a Poacher
3) Leaving letter
4) Informing the Environment Agency that the barbel had been stocked in club waters
5) bringing the club into disrepute.

Perhaps Paul would like to respond to these accusations?

Leaving Letter Green Drake ? Was This The Same Letter Sent To Gord "dingle" And Rotty Not Forgettin Ron Or Did You Mean Litter Learn To Spell Drakey !!!!!!!!!!!

Rottweiler says: Thu 19th Apr 2007, 04:59 PM
Firstly I would like to know who chaired the meeting. I would like to know who made these false accusations in public.
with regards to your questions.
1) Poaching I have never poached in my life. I have always carried the relevant licences and membership when and where required. I have yet in over 40 years to be asked for my rod licence. I am too scared to not purchase one for fear of being caught without one.
2)Fishing with a poacher. I am not too sure who you are refering too here? If it is Gord Burton then the answer is no I have never fished with him. I have been at the waters and Gord has turned up and we have chatted. He has also shown me various methods of how to fish for pike. I have known Gord only for a couple of months and yet I have to see what he is famous for and that is catch a pike :) On this note Gord is the only person who has bothered to take the time to show me the correct methods of pike fishing. No other member or even committee has bothered to take the time to show me.
3)Leaving Litter you must listen to my wife when I get home with all the litter like a real fish wife :) NO I DO NOT LEAVE LITTER I shout these words because I hate it when people do.
If you recall earlier last year I was alone and I mean alone responsible for the cleanup at Crowland Street. I got the local MP's and councillors involved. The head Bailiff tried to take all the credit by having his photo published in thepaper but he did absolutly nothing towards the clean up.
4)With regards to infroming the Enviroment Agency about the barbel again the answer is no. I had heard the rumour about a Section 30 not being filed and it was brought up on a foumr months ago. Like normal I raised the question. I ended up getting banned from the forum for raising questions. Because of this they got my back up. I then contacted the national fisheries. The number is on your rod licence. They informed me that they were aware of the situation since last year. They had also been on the SDAA website and noted that they mentioned the barbel there. I thus sent them a letter requesting the details. They obliged and i just passed it on. I have been made aware of the possible culprits but since I don't have proof I will wait till the names are published.
5)Bringing the club into disrepute can be a touchy subject depending on how you read things. As i mentioned earlier on this thread I was fed up of all the rumours going around the local tackle shops and amongst fellow anglers. So I thought the only way to settle it all is ask the questions and get everyone to shut up. Unfortunately this backfired on myself because the more questions I asked the more semed to be wrong. I have written letters to 6 committee members and they all failed to respond.

I have not been able to defend myself at all. This is the first time I have heard of these accusations. If anyone is prepared to send me a signed statement of what was said at the meeting it will be greatly appreciated. Because being found guilty of something you have not done, not being allowed to defend yourself and that it be made public knowledge with out me even knowing is ludicrous.

onthespot says: Thu 19th Apr 2007, 07:20 PM
Paul Cobb has tonight (Thursday19th April 2007) made an official complaint against the SDAA at Southport police.

Paul Cobb was spotted going into the local police station earlier this evening. When asked what was going on his reply was that he had had enough of the SDAA as they had crossed the line.

They crossed the line by informing the members of the SDAA at the AGM by telling them what he was found guilty off. Paul also says that the SDAA had no right to do this as he is innocent and he wasn't even aware of the allegations.

He has been found guilty by a kangeroo court at no time was he given a chance to defend himself. It was also mentioned that the forum is with holding his mail which is a criminal offence and a long prison sentence can be imposed on the with holder.

Paul is infuriated with the SDAA as they are trying to move the focus from themselves with regards to the illegal stocking of 500 barbel to him.

The S.D.A.A. should have a 12 month closed season on their so-called river crossens not just the 3 month one thats running now until 12th june, and as for Cobby,Ron and Gordy, they will know better than me,that there are BETTER waters to fish than those run by the S.D.A.A.
And these other waters will not have ANY illegally stocked fish in them.also you dont have to be a member to fish them, just pay for a day ticket, and have a valid NRA Rod license of course.
I Hope the Police CAN and Do take action against the S.D.A.A.
HOW DOES THE SAYING GO ? INNOCENT UNTIL PROVED GUILTY ? Where is the SDAA evidence ?
THE SDAA ARE ACTING LIKE A LOAD OF JELLYFISH,NOT A BACKBONE BETWEEN ANY OF THEM

Gord is one the best pike anglers around and a real character, why would a up club want to ban a celebrity like him, surely he's good for PR ?

He has he own brands of rods on the shelves of many shops around the globe and even had a stand a few years back at the NEC Angling & Hunting Show.

I am a little confused and not for the first time. Can someone please tell me how they managed to count 500 fish?

Did the fish get tickets and join a Q?

Did some one catch all the fish and TAG them?

This smells a bit fishy to me!

Paul Cobb incognitto (wig & glasses) are things that dangerous in the underworld of fishing that complainants have to attend the police station in disguise.
