Pontins of Ainsdale is to be re-built

Pontins of Ainsdale is to be re-built by the company who bought them out in 2008. Ocean Parcs are investing over £10M into the leisure centre.

The refurbishment will create a number of jobs for the resort, and work is expected to commence shortly. A total of £50M is to be invested in upgrading five other sites in the UK.

not before time, i did scuba lessons in the pool there and was shocked to see the state of the place. To think that families still have annual holidays there is amazing, the complaints must outweigh praise by 10 to 1.

Great News.

This is yet another sign of organisations and business having confidence in Southports future.

We are a town on the up and up when many are on the down and down.

Lets see more big boys ploughing dosh into our town ;-))

We've had lots of fantastic holidays there thanks, fordy - and wouldn't hesitate to go back again. Pure magic for the kids.

It appears, on the Pontin's web site, that they are taking bookings at Southport for the summer and next Christmas.

Long overdue but well done to the new owners - hopefully some of our locals who work there every season will benefit from increased trade and maybe more jobs will be created.

just found this on sky news

Pontin's has given Britons a break from the job loss gloom, creating 2,000 new positions at its six holiday parks.

Holidaymakers

Ocean Parcs is expanding and improving the seaside resorts it bought last year

The new posts will include catering, retail and bar staff as well as Blue Coats and will involve a mixture of full time, part time and seasonal positions.

Owners Ocean Parcs said it was "particularly rewarding" to create new jobs while the country was in recession.

The firm will refurbish sites in Somerset and North Wales, and centres in East Sussex and Merseyside will be completely redesigned and re-built.

Another park at Lowestoft will double in size and capacity.

Ian Smith, chief executive of Ocean Parcs, said: "We are tremendously excited about the investment planned for the development of our Pontin's holiday centres and the employment and tourism revenue that will be generated by this substantial investment."

But there was no such satisfaction for truck maker Scania, which said it will have cut 2,000 jobs by the end of the first quarter.

The news came as the Swedish company reported a bigger-than-expected fall in fourth-quarter pretax earnings in the face of crumbling demand.

Also in Sweden, airline SAS announced it would make 3,000 staff redundant after posting heavy fourth quarter losses.
