SHOOTING AT THE CEMETERY

Bemused onlookers could have been forgiven for thinking that a mafia-style rendezvous was taking place at a very cold and wet Duke Street Cemetery on Saturday Morning. The sight of two classic American cars occupied by hoodies and glamorous females pulling into the derelict property caused more than a couple of odd looks from curious passers-by.

Devils River & Birkdale Classics

In actual fact, what was taking place was a photo-shoot for perhaps the biggest original act in the region, local band Devils River. The Devil’s have teamed up with Birkdale Classics, special occasion car hire, for the sleeve artwork of their forthcoming album “Deal with the Devil” after discovering that Birkdale Classics had acquired a 1958 Cadillac previously owned by a certain Mr Elvis Presley.

“It was definitely owned by Elvis”, we were advised by Graham of Birkdale Classics. “It even still had a bullet-hole in the windscreen when we brought it over” referring to Elvis’s legendary propensity for shooting his TV’s and Cars.

The Devils drafted in a model, Becky Hesketh from Bury, to pose with the iconic vehicle. “Becky was brilliant and very brave!”, said Johnny Rainford from the Band. “she came a long way and it was very cold.” “We had to ask Steve Henshall, our photographer to try to ignore her goose-bumps!”

Bass player, Gareth Hughes added “It was pretty surreal sitting in the same spot where the king of rock and roll had once sat. The Cadillac was just amazing”.

“Deal with the Devil” is the second release from Devils River and will shortly be available on CD and Download.

A question springs to mind. If the bullet hole was made by "Elvis" all those years ago. How does it pass an MOT in this country. My car has just failed for a stone chip!

The first car Elvis bought was a pink Cadillac for his mum Glady`s....I don't know if this is the one, but it sure looks like it. I went to Gracelands last year and Elvis's car museum is there. God there is loads and loads of cars like this including Buicks, and Continentals.... I wonder if it is the real deal...

There used to be an American car collector who had a warehouse on Compton rd, he had a few cars from the stars including Marylin Monroe.

Nice marketing angle to say it was owned by Elvis but it is unlikely! Still I would give my eye teeth to own it Elvis link included or not! Just need a bit of tape over the bullet hole to keep the rain out 0-}

The bloke from Compton Road was Eric English who died a few years back. He owned a lot of old American cars that he claimed used to belong to celebrities but myself and other members of the Southport American Meet used to think maybe he used to exaggerate somewhat....

Whilst on the subject of American cars...I did used to own a Chevy Camaro that was reputed to have been owned by Jim Carrey but I could never find conclusive proof...
