RTC 'Bus Crash Nightmare'

Bus Crash Nightmare

The emergency services were called to Hall Road, Scarisbrick at approximately 7:20am this morning (Saturday 30th July 2005) following reports of a RTC.

An Arriva bus collided with a Coach (Wigan Coachways) on the sharp bend just before Drumersdale Lane, north bound.

Paramedics arrived at the scene within minutes who transferred the female bus driver and male coach driver to Hospital.

Normally buses on this route would be full of passengers on a Saturday morning; luckily there were only two male passengers on the bus who both managed to escape via the emergency exit at the rear. One passenger suffered leg injuries.

Just shows how flimsy fibre glass construction is. The service bus driver has very little protection at all

what a tragic accident. It was very lucky no passengers were in at this time.

these accidents always happen on tight bends!

The arriva bus has taken a heck of a clout, any news of the driver? Hope both are OK.

As an Ex-Arriva driver , I would like to pass on my best wishes for a speedy recovery. Luckily this kind of accident is very rare.

Thank God they both got out.

Well, that tree/bush on the right of the picture should be chopped down for starters. Hope both drivers are feeling better.

Blimey...

If it's the bend I'm thinking of (near Heaton's Bridge Inn), then I'm not suprised a bus and a coach couldn't get around at the same time...

Speedy recovery to all involved.

. Cause of the accident "incompetence. " If you are familiar with that particular road you will know to slow down. If you are not common sense says slow down anyway

It is a good spot if you are bored go and to see hgv wagons rat running to and from burscough approaching to fast and meeting another coming the other way. It is almost impossible for two wagons to pass each other without slowing down or mounting the kerb. And it is no different for bus,s and coaches

iccle_tigger says: Tue 2nd Aug 2005, 10:16 AM
That bends awful i go round there every week, you have 2 go about 20 to make sure your on the right side of the road, plus its a blind corner so you never know if theres a boy racer coming round the corner!

weary traveller says: Tue 2nd Aug 2005, 06:38 PM
having travelled on this 'bus on a regular basis it was "an accident waiting to happen" the speed with which 'buses take those bends is quite frighteneing and I have myself been on a 'bus with "near misses" on that stretch. It is not a race to see how quick you can get to Ormskirk - thank god nobody was seriously hurt

Hi people.

Im sorry to heard about bus(Arriva) and coach are hit each other so nasty. Am I right 375 to Wigan and if any one know which bus to go. I thought someone say about they should bit more wide on the road proper and tree must be cut off, I agree punk-lives and Smithy.

Anyone bus enthusiast like me? Oh well that's ok. Hope the both driver are ok.

BTW, I'm Martyn and from Wigan and I'm 25 yrs old. I like Southport is a nice town of course. Also I'm profoundly deaf.

P.S Are bus and coach are off the road by the pickups? Let me know.

Thank you

Martyn
