UK Eco Scooters - New Mode of Transport
Mon 6th Oct 2008, 02:12 PM
Reported by: onthespot
UK Eco Scooters

A local company has recently released a new and exciting mode of transport, not only is it cheap and efficient to run, it has the added benefit of being better for the environment than your average car. I have had the pleasure of seeing these fantastic vehicles for myself and have to say I’m impressed……when you’ve finished reading this editorial you’ll know why.

UK Eco Scooters as the company name suggests sell scooters, and not just any scooters. Specially designed for the UK market these 100% electric vehicles are an economical way to travel. They cost 8 pence to fully recharge (standard three pin mains socket – it’s like plugging your kettle in but you don’t get a cup of tea at the end of it!) meaning they not only save you money in comparison to a petrol powered vehicle but whilst looking as good as they do (visit www.ukecoscooters.co.uk for detailed images) they also do their bit to help the environment.
On a single 8 pence charge you can travel distances of up to 40 miles at 30mph all this, and totally emission free.

With up to 60% of car journeys in today’s society being less than 5 miles, and rising fuel prices we all have to contend with, UK Eco Scooters provide a solution that leaves cash in your pocket where it’s needed and also reducing the amount of greenhouse gases and other pollutants released into the environment.

The OECD reports that road transport accounts for 80% of CO2 emissions from all transport (public included). When you do all the sums this means that road transport accounts for more than 20% of total overall emissions. From a long term perspective road transport is forecasted to increase by up to 150% over the next few decades.

Taking that small amount of information into consideration another striking fact is that the health of up to one in five people in the UK is particularly at risk from air pollution. Those at higher risk include not only people with heart and lung diseases but also young children, pregnant women and the elderly. One of the most well-known impacts of air pollution is an increase in asthma attacks. The incidence of asthma appears to have more than doubled in the last 15 years. Some of this increase may be due to changes in how doctors categorise asthma, but it is now widely accepted that the incidence of asthma has increased considerably.

Asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood with around 1 in 7 children affected. By continuing to use our cars for these short (none essential – in many cases) journeys we surely can’t ignore the fact that we put our own health and that of our families, friends and future generations at risk. Electric vehicles are up to 99% less polluting than even the cleanest fossil fuel powered vehicle.

The introduction of more vehicles like the UK Eco Scooter will help to encourage people to think about and hopefully reduce their carbon footprints, by providing a safe and affordable eco-transport solution for the general public and many private organisations.

You might think that there couldn’t be any more benefits with these little scooters; but that’s where you would be wrong. To make them even more appealing they are exempt from road tax and congestion charges in many major cities (for example. They are super quiet too, (none of the irritating noise associated with petrol scooters – you’ve all heard the awful screeching they make as they try in vain to accelerate! ) This means that even if you are up and out with the birds at dawn you won’t disturb a single one of your neighbours.

Noise pollution is a major factor with other forms of transport and can have adverse affects on your health and mental well being, as any of you who live near a busy road will know.
UK Eco Scooters are running a promotion for all new customers in the Southport area with a £50.00 discount off your total order price. All that you need to do to take advantage of this is call the sales office on 01704 888 880 and place your order before 31.10.08.

If you are a business you can also take advantage of the trade deals available with special pricing for bulk orders. UK Eco Scooters offer many benefits to businesses including the option to have the vehicles branded with your company logo and/or colours making every employee who uses a scooter an eco-friendly advertisement for your company.

There are even government grants available for the installation of ‘Park and Charge’ bays in the location of your business premises. Your company’s eco credentials are instantly boosted if you look at UK Eco Scooters as a viable alternative to a company car. Companies who service the local community with deliveries of small and medium sized goods can also benefit from the scooters and their ability to beat traffic jams whilst reducing overall company transport costs and marketing the company effectively.

UK Eco Scooters can even help local authorities and government to meet their Local Air Quality Management goals, help students make an investment in a reliable mode of transport to allow them to travel in style meaning they rely less on public transport which continues to increase in price and help commuters to reduce their expenditure during an increasingly difficult financial period.

I also found out that these scooters are designed to be almost maintenance free; any spare parts are available from www.ukecoscooters.co.uk and clicking on ‘spares’ and are designed to be easy to fit. The scooters don’t even need an MOT until the third anniversary of the date they were registered.

UK Eco Scooters are easy, fun and relaxing to ride; they offer anyone who owns one a chance to not only save money but to also do their bit for the environment as well as a whole host of other smaller but no less important benefits.

These scooters as I mentioned before not only look good, they are available in a wide range of colours including green/black, red/white, yellow/black, blue/white and black/silver. After checking on the website www.ukecoscooters.co.uk I also found that they are available in custom colour designs. So if you want to, you really can stand out from the crowd in terms of your street and eco credentials.

A UK Eco Scooter will give you the ride of your life and make you feel a bit better about yourself and your finances at the same time!

These scooters are not necessarily helping the environment.
They run on electricity.
The electricity has to be generated somehow.
About 70% of our electricity is produced by burning coal or gas - both produce carbon dioxide, coal also produces other nasty pollutants.
By using these scooters you are moving the pollution from the bike exhaust to a power station somewhere else.
It gets worse. Many coal-fired power stations are only about 35% efficient, so most of the energy burnt goes up the chimney.
A small diesel car is more efficient than this......

As these are restricted to 30mph i would say prov license with cbt would be fine.

They are going to be massive, lots of big companies get these for there staff down south to save on them getting the car to work.

Wouldn't you have to have plenty of re-charging stations if you only get 40miles to each charge?

they are possibly 12 or 24volt - do the electric trams or trains stop running when it's raining ?. don't get a job as a milkman -the milk floats are electrical. bright spark

I am not sure they are much good for doing the shopping nor the school run! Especially as I would be terrified getting on one of these things.

I am ok as a pillion (or at least I used to be) ;)

just get a 125cc bike they will mile for mile be more efficient if you think about how much damage is caused creating 8p worth of electricity

Energy monitor says: Fri 10th Oct 2008, 05:13 PM
To put the record a bit straighter, burning a litre of diesel creates about 2.5kg of CO2. It contains about 10 kilowatt hours of energy but an internal combustion engine is only about 25% efficient, 75% going out the exhaust. So that's 1000g CO2 per kWh actually used. By comparison the power station is quite a lot more efficient at about 570grams/kWh. There may not be much between them but even allowing for losses transporting the power through your battery recharger, electric vehicles are probably 'greener', as long as the battery is looked after and recycled. No, I don't sell electric vehicles for a living...
