JUNGLE RIVER! WIPPEE!!! WOW!!!! EXCITED!!!!!!

I'm seeing swamps; crocodiles; perilous perils wherever you look and rain forests. Can't Wait! ......................................Hang on, just looked at the photograph - is that a pile of plastic tubing and perspex on concrete?

Looks about as exciting as a night out with Anne Widdecombe.

Why don't they just give up with the site, it looks like Steptoes scrapyard. They should just bulldoze the lot and start again!

pedoja says: Thu 5th Mar 2009, 07:05 PM
OMG..... do the posters always have to be so negative....

It is certainly better than a space on the seafront or a building site!

That site resembles parts of former Soviet Union inner-city landscapes (ahh.. the memories!).

Waterboy is right.. the entire site should be bulldozed. Why not build something that actually looks pleasing - unlike the the cheap monstrosity on the "sea front" (US style shopping mall) or structure at the end of the pier that looks like a prefab bus shelter.

Everything has to be 'cheap' and reflect 'value' - why not 'indulgent' and 'beautiful' instead ?

I think people's attitudes are reflecting the state of the place. It is purely horrible, who wants that tacky crap cluttering up the seafront? That ride is about as trustworthy as the people who work in there.

That's literally the best ride I've ever seen. I needn't travel to Florida this year after all.

My family and I visited Southport last summer in order to visit this amusement park. We were very pleased with the presentation of the rides, the staff were very friendly and i could see all safety test stickers in the windows of the cashbox's on most rides. As The_Maineak correctly stated ALL fairground equipment must be tested by an approved tester before paying public are aloud to ride. All rides must have electricity tests, hydrolic tests etc. If a ride fails any one of these tests it will not be able to open to the public until it has been retested and approved. The log flume in question is operated by a well known showman who attends several large fairs throughout the duration of the year. The ride itself is one of its only type travelling and you guys should feel privaliged to have it in your town. I have recomended southport to many of my friends and family and they too will be coming up this year (mainly to visit the new pleasureland!). Im sure this new attraction will indeed pull in the punters, which effectivly will help out you guys in the long run.
Im really having to bite my tounge here as i cannot belive you are moaning like a bunch of school children about something that attracts tourists to your town?!?! MAD. Im really looking forward to my visit to the new pleasureland and i would like to wish all associated with it the best of luck with the 2009 season,
Tom Smith

It wont be cheap printing that voucher off in A4 size and in colour...also 'the maniac' says that black and white photocopies won't be accepted - what if I photocopy in colour? That park is a waste of time in my opinion...bulldoze it and use the blank canvas to create something new and different.

I bet that none of the previous negative posters have even walked round Pleasureland this year!!!
I know I haven't!

Good luck to them I say though.

I agree 100%.
At least we will have a Pleasureland to go to. Which is going to be more than several other seaside towns I have lived in. Perhaps it seems there are better places to live in, and no doubt someone has found them, (don't bother telling me). However, there are worse, believe me, I lived in some.

Good luck to 'THE_MAINEAK', I hope you have a successful season, despite all the detractors.

Tom Smith that is nice to hear I spoke to a lot of people who enjoyed New Pleasureland last Summer and so did we.

This is the Jungle River Log Flume, so far we know it is going to be at New Pleasureland for Easter, it's a great ride there is one at Bridlington aswell.

Looks like some of that crap stuff that Noel Edmonds had up morecambe/fleetwood a few years back with Mr Blobby.

I must say it says a lot for out town....Not!

Backintown says: Fri 6th Mar 2009, 07:48 PM
why cant they build something useful and fun on that site, maybe an ice skating rink

paul69 says: Fri 6th Mar 2009, 09:51 PM
i support the Pleasure land site and agree is hard because of lease difficulties etc but the negative state of some people on this site !! makes you wish ONLY for these people to turn the site into an immigrant detention centre !!! lol this will please them ! my god i do hope Norman never reads! if was me i would be so upset !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rossy48 says: Fri 6th Mar 2009, 10:34 PM
I am amazed at the level of negativity here, before anyone has even tried this out.
I have been on a very similar ride with my son and we both got drenched but had good fun as you go down very quick into a big splash, and we had the surprise of been caught by the splash of another boat on the other slope, even though we were both soaked, it was really good fun.
I wish New Pleasureland every sucess with this and all future investment in new rides, this town needs a succesful attraction like this.

brookster says: Fri 6th Mar 2009, 11:52 PM
Rossy 48,who Said Its Successfull, build A Huge Moto X Stunt Track Next To It On Princess Park Or As Previously Mentioned A Ice Rink So People Wouldnt Have To Keep Travelin Miles Every Weekend Or Evening For Their Entertainment & It Maybe More Beneficial, besides Kids Would Rather Be Sat Behind A Computor Screen Or Playin On A Ds Nowadays Or Even Sat On A Street Corner Gettin Drunk & Plannin Their Teenage Pregnancy Or "parenthood",sorry But Successfull I Dont Think It Will Ever Be.

Come on guys let's give The-Maineak a chance. This beautiful town needs an injection of attractions to encourage families to visit and spend hard earned cash.Since the closure of Pleasureland by the ill advised Thompson family anything on that site is better than nothing and it was beginning to look like Beirut.
In Morecambe the Thompsons closed down FrontierLand and look what's happened there. A huge pile of rubble on the sea front and it looks a mega mess.
Let's try to be a bit more positive and hope that there will be some success for New Pleasureland this season.
If we don't encourage businesses into the town Southport could become just a shopping only resort and that is what has happened in Morecambe apart from the views across the bay into the Lake District.
I don't live in Southport but I work here and there are far worse seaside resorts that I would not wish to visit again due to lack of investment so come on and support all efforts to regenerate this beautiful town and be proud to be part of the life of Southport.

scozz says: Sat 7th Mar 2009, 04:31 PM
A large part of me wants this venture to succeed, but an equally large part of me says that it is merely a an attempt doomed to failure. The reason being that Southport pleasureland was destroyed so that Blackpool pleasurebeach would have no competition for miles around. It is awfully suspicious that Southport council stood around twiddling there thumbs whilst the fairground was demolished just enough to make it unrestorable. If this was an act of pure incompetence they should surely be willing to encourage any new developer to rebuild the site, but alas and alack they won't even give him a decent lease on it to make redevelopment realistic as a long term project. Is there only me that can smell a rat here?
Cue Ecclesfan to post a comment such as, "Amanda Thompson is the most nicest person in the world and has never done anything underhand in her whole life."
