Two excellent Braintree Town finishes from Sam Corne and a lack of composure from the Port players sentenced Southport to another defeat.

Euan Murray, marauding forward, saw his 10th minute overhead kick from a long left-wing thrown-in came off the base of the far post and back into play.

Southport dominated the first half but they failed to seriously extend Braintree goalkeeper Ben McNamara.

Just before half-time the Sam Corne latched onto a deep right-wing corner and slotted home with a snap shot finish.

Southport midfielder Jim Stevenson wasted a great 57th-minute opportunity, shooting straight at McNarama from just 12 yards.

Within seconds, Corne produced a superb low 25-yard finish, beating goalkeeper Craig King to his left.

That second killed off the Sandgrounders, whose closest chance to score in the second half was through a Stevenson glancing header that a mid-air McNamara clutched comfortably.

Southport: King, R Higgins, J Higgins, White, Murray (Jones 79), McKeown, Nolan, Weeks, Stevenson, Grimes (Coley 66), Almond.
Subs not used: McKenna, Brodie, Cundy.

Yes I do go and also have a season ticket and I have been going since the early 70s when crowds were dwinggling even further down and nearly going out of business, I am also a member of Trust In Yellow are you ?, bet your not otherwise us the members would hear you in the corner on your own chanting Clapham out like a Muppet you are. who would take over if Charlie left go on answer that one brainy box.

You failed to answer my question obviously you haven't got a clue who would take over if Clapham went, you know nothing about running a football club, all you do is criticise the club and chairman, who needs supporters when they have people like you, get a life and grow up.

There's some interesting rewriting of history taking place here, particularly by randy who seems to be under the impression that nobody else on this forum was around when he turned up on the scene in the early 70's. Well by that time I had been a Haig Avenue regular for several seasons, and I certainly don't recognise this club in decline with "dwinggling" attendances that he refers to. Indeed, if my memory serves me correctly we were crowned Champions of what was then the Fourth Division in '73 or '74 (I can't remember which) with attendances at or around the 4,000 mark.

People like randy can defend Clapham until they're blue in the face but I'm afraid the facts themselves are a savage indictment of the man's tenure as Chairman. It's not just an opinion that the club spends every season in a relegation fight and it's not just an opinion that home attendances are abysmal and have been for years. As for whether there is anybody waiting in the wings to take over from Clapham, the simple response is that we will never know because Clapham certainly wouldn't tell you. His communication skills are non existent because he doesn't feel the need to justify anything to anybody, least of all the supporters for whom he feels nothing but disdain.

Brown noser haha what a joke you are, I'm a realist unlike you who thinks some night in shining armour will come in with loads of cash dream on. I can just imagine you in the crowd chanting Clapham out and no one listening to you, true supporters get behind the team unlike you who goes on a website slating them and the chairman not much of a fan are you.

"Realist" I'm not a psychiatrist but "seriously deluded" sounds more plausible. You pay money to watch a team of no hopers led by a Despot with no ambition, it must be easy for you to earn it. A "Realist" would surely invest his money in something positive not throw it at the most negative cause in World Football.

It's not uncommon to see Clapham acolytes like randy attempt to muddy the waters between criticism of Clapham and criticism of the team in an attempt to make people with genuine concerns appear disloyal to the club. The reality is that very few, if any, regulars are disparaging of the team itself. What they are disparaging of is a Chairman for whom they justifiably have no respect whatsoever.
