The horror genre has been dominating the video game industry for decades already. However, the Resident Evil series managed to garnish it only further. Ever since Capcom built the franchise’s foundation in 1996, there has been barely a Resident Evil game that has brutally flopped. In fact, there is none. While some games do rank a bit higher than the others, the gameplay and story is still novel and gripping.
The franchise has managed to score original games, remakes, spin-offs and even mobile games. And surely you cannot get around playing each and every game no matter how big of a fan you are. To make your selection easier for you, we have compiled a list of all the popular Resident Evil games that you need to play at least once.
Resident Evil 4
The 2005 game, Resident Evil 4, gave a new face to the RE franchise. The over the shoulder gameplay and third-person shooter view made the game all the more interesting and rewarding. Bringing back Leon S. Kennedy was a plus, as well. As compared to Resident Evil 2 and 3, the game isn’t set in Raccoon City either. You don’t see mindless zombies sprawling everywhere instead each encounter you make as a well-driven background story. From the chainsaw-wielding infected villagers to the boss fight with a colossal troll, Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 will always top the list.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Capcom renews the franchise with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. As you start playing the game, you won’t be finding any direct correlation to the old Resident Evil games. There are no tyrants, there’s no zombie outbreak and you aren’t sent by S.T.A.R.S to contain a virus outburst. To make the gameplay realistic, Capcom decided to stray away from its original roots and has structured Resident Evil 7 in a first-person view. You will have to solve puzzles to advance further and that’s one common notion RE 7 has with the already existing Resident Evil games.
Resident Evil 2: Remake
The 1998 classic game was greenlit for a remake by Capcom in 2019 and it certainly wasn’t a miss. In fact, it’s one of the best Resident Evil remakes Capcom has furnished. The gameplay is gripping, and the story has only been tweaked for the better. You still get the petrifying Lickers but the main highlight of the game is Mr. X, a tyrant, who will follow you to the deepest darkest alleys of Raccoon City.
Resident Evil 3: Remake
Another Resident Evil game remake that saw its release in 2020 is Resident Evil 3. Remake of the 1999 game, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Capcom has done justice to the original title. As most Resident Evil games, the game is set in first-person view. The game is centered on Jill Valentine, an S.T.A.R.S member who is sent to Raccoon City with a mission to investigate the virus outbreak. Little does she know that it’s the work of Umbrella Corporation itself. To her surprise, a tyrant called Nemesis is set loose in the city with a sole mission to exterminate the remaining S.T.A.R.S members.
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica follows right after the episodes centered in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. With Claire Redfield being the protagonist of the story, the game pioneered its way through real-time 3D environments in the then world of Resident Evil games.Read more: Top 7 Trending Bollywood News
Code: Veronica was initially Dreamcast exclusive but then was released on a number of platforms such as PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and GameCube.
If you’re a fan of thriller, horror and a bit of gore, Resident Evil games are the one for you. On the other hand, if you’re a movie buff and you like the same set of genres then you’re in luck as well. Over the years, action-horror movies based on Capcom’s RE franchise have been released. Want to take a sneak peak or are you looking to run a movie marathon? Well, you can find these titles on streaming platforms but if you’re more of a cable TV person, you can considering getting Select TV and you will might as well come across a Resident Evil movie broadcasted on your preferred movie channel!
